ST PAUL, Minn.—The Minnesota Department of Transportation today announced a nearly $900 million transportation construction program for 2011 that will increase safety, improve mobility, expand capacity and preserve infrastructure statewide.

I-94 Lowry Tunnel to close overnight April 18 and 19 for cleaning

 

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists will experience delays and full closures of I-94 in Minneapolis as the Lowry Tunnel is closed overnight in both directions for cleaning April 18 and 19.

 

The closures will take place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Crews will clean the westbound side of the tunnel on Oct. 18 and the eastbound side on Oct. 19. Motorists will be detoured to the prohibited vehicle route.

The I-35 Mega Project in Duluth is well underway

The I-35 Mega Project in Duluth is well underway and we wanted to update you on
some important closures:

Traffic is currently restricted to a single lane in each direction from Central
to Garfield Avenues. Today the ramp from northbound I-35 to northbound Hwy 53 (Piedmont
Avenue) will close and be detoured until October. Tomorrow (Thursday, April 7) the
ramp from northbound I-35 to eastbound Hwy 2 (Bong Bridge) will close and be detoured
until October.

Final open house scheduled for Feb. 24
The city of Detroit Lakes, the Minnesota Department of Transportation and Becker
County invite you to attend an open house on Thursday, Feb. 24, regarding the results
of the Detroit Lakes Area Transportation Study. The open house is scheduled for
5-7 p.m. at Minnesota State Community and Technical College, 900 Highway 34, Detroit
Lakes, Minn. A brief presentation will take place at 5:30 p.m.
 

STATE PATROL URGES MOTORISTS TO MOVE OVER FOLLOWING INJURY TO TROOPER

ST. PAUL — The Minnesota State Patrol’s message to motorists — move over.  Troopers are underscoring the importance of the law following a January 17 crash in which the squad of a state trooper was struck while the trooper was assisting a motorist on the shoulder of I-35W near Forest Lake. Lt. Chris Edstrom suffered minor injuries.

$44.5 million in grants to improve safety, mobility at four intersections

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Transportation Commissioner Tom Sorel announced $44.5 million in grants towards the construction of highway interchange projects that will promote safety and reduce congestion at four dangerous intersections in Greater Minnesota and the Twin Cities metro area. These projects will replace existing signalized intersections with interchanges and ramps. The Safety and Mobility Interchange Program grants are funded through a bond appropriation made by the 2010 Legislature and designated specifically for interchanges.
